According to The Times, Chelsea and Manchester City are currently in advanced negotiations for Chelsea to sign Dutch center-back Nathan Ake this summer.

Sport Bible reports that Manchester City will want for about £50 million for the Dutch center-back. The fact that the defender's contract with City goes through the summer of 2025 may be the cause of the club's high asking price for him.

Nathan Ake, incidentally, worked for Chelsea from 2011 until 2017. He only made 17 first-team appearances with the Blues, though, and he was loaned away three times.

Raheem Sterling's transfer has already been discussed between the two teams. The English international and the Blues have come to personal terms, and they are now closing in on a deal worth £45 million.

It is important to note that Nathan Ake is not the only defender this summer who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel prioritised signing Juventus center-back Matthijs De Ligt during the transfer period. But the Old Lady insisted on £75 million, despite De Ligt's preference for a transfer to Bayern Munich.

Moving away from Manchester City could be advantageous for Ake. The pecking order now places the Dutchman below Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias, and John Stones. Last season, the 27-year-old defender only made 27 appearances in all competitions.

He apparently has personal terms with Chelsea. He may anticipate playing frequently for the first team at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel. This may be essential to the defender's ability to succeed a spot in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Towards the start of the 2022–23 season, Chelsea will be short on centre backs.

The Blues now have few options for centre back going into the new campaign. Thiago Silva, who is getting older, and the inexperienced team of Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah are the only choices left for Thomas Tuchel at the moment.

Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, two of Chelsea's best centre backs, have left the team this summer. Following the expiration of their individual contracts, both defenders departed the team on free transfers and joined FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.

The Blues will be eager to strengthen their defence as they get ready to face Everton on August 6, 2022, the first day of the Premier League season.
